About Dr. Althaus
Dr. Althaus is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstructive surgery including the knee, hip, and shoulder.
While in residency at the University of Kansas Hospital, Dr. Althaus was able to acquire a broad knowledge of the surgical and non-surgical management of many orthopaedic conditions. This is demonstrated by his performance on standardized exams during training including scoring in the 99th percentile on the Orthopaedic In-Training Exam and the 96th percentile on the written portion of the Orthopaedic Board Exam.
He completed a fellowship with the Insall Scott Kelly Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City where he learned state-of-the-art techniques for the management of injuries and arthritic conditions involving the hip, knee, and shoulder. At ISK, he worked with some of the best knee surgeons in the country and was exposed to the philosophy and legacy of Dr. John Insall, who is regarded as the father of knee replacement surgery. During this fellowship, he received additional training in shoulder reconstruction, rotator cuff, and labral surgery as well as hip arthroscopy for the treatment of labral tears and hip impingement. He has experience with all of the common approaches to the hip including the direct anterior, lateral, and posterior.
